Alisha: Top 25 Urdu Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 19: "What's wrong?" in Urdu. In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Urdu learners, and then learn how to answer like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then, through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Syed: کیا مسئلہ ہے؟
Alisha: The first word in the question is...
Syed: کیا
Alisha: meaning "what" in English.
Syed: (Slow) کیا
Alisha: Listen again and repeat.
Syed: کیا

Alisha: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Syed: مسئلہ
Alisha: meaning "wrong"
Syed: (Slow) مسئلہ
Alisha: Now repeat.
Syed: مسئلہ

Alisha: meaning "I"
Syed: (Slow) میں
Alisha: Now repeat.
Syed: میں

Syed: (Slow) تھکا ہوا
Alisha: Now repeat.

Alisha: To use a different phrase, replace "tired" with "hungry."
Syed: بھوکا
Alisha: "hungry"
Syed: (slow) بھوکا (regular) بھوکا
Alisha: Listen to the phrase again, this time with "hungry."
Syed: میں بھوکا ہوں.
Alisha: It mostly stays the same. Just replace "tired" with "hungry" Now say, "I'm hungry."

Alisha: To give a different answer, replace "hungry" with "angry."
Syed: غصے میں
Alisha: "angry"
Syed: (slow) غصے میں (regular) غصے میں
Alisha: Listen to the phrase again, this time with "angry."
Syed: میں غصے میں ہوں.
Alisha: It’s almost the same. Just replace "hungry" with "angry." Now say, "I'm angry."

Syed: میں غصے میں ہوں.
Alisha: For more practice, replace "angry" with "alright."
Syed: ٹھیک
Alisha: "alright"
Syed: (slow) ٹھیک (regular) ٹھیک
Alisha: Listen to the phrase again, this time with "alright."
Syed: میں ٹھیک ہوں.
Alisha: Here we just replace "angry" with "alright." Now say "I'm alright."

Syed: میں ٹھیک ہوں.
Alisha: Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you're visiting Pakistan and someone asks you what's wrong. You want to answer that you’re tired. What would you say?
Syed: کیا مسئلہ ہے؟ (five seconds) میں تھکا ہوا ہوں.
Alisha: Now you want to say you’re alright. Respond to the question.
Syed: کیا مسئلہ ہے؟ (five seconds) میں ٹھیک ہوں.
Alisha: You want to say you’re angry. Answer the speaker's question.
Syed: کیا مسئلہ ہے؟ (five seconds) میں غصے میں ہوں.
Alisha: Imagine you're hungry. What do you say?
Syed: کیا مسئلہ ہے؟ (five seconds) میں بھوکا ہوں.
Alisha: Now you want to ask someone what's wrong. Ask the question.
