INTRODUCTION
My dear listeners, today we're going to take a trip to the post office. Now, the "post office" in Pakistan is Dak khana, (SLOW) Dak khana. The corporate color is red, and the post box color is red too.
In this lesson, we're going to work on getting your postcards, letters, and packages home. The expression we need to accomplish this is "I'd like to send this to…," and then the desired destination. For this lesson, we'll use Italy.
BODY
In Urdu, "I would like to send this to Italy" is Mujhay yeh itali bhaijna hai Let's break it down by syllable: (SLOW) Mu-jhay yeh it-a-li bha-ijna hai. Now let's hear it once again: Mujhay yeh itali bhaijna hai.
The first word, Mujhay mean "I." Next yeh means “this.” Let's break them down and hear them one more time: (SLOW)Mu-jhay yeh, Mujhay Yeh. Next, we have the name of the country you are sending it to, itali. Next is bhaijna hai, which in English is "to send." Now all together, we have Mujhay yeh itali bhaijna hai. Literally, this means "I would like to send this to Italy."
Let's look at the other words. We were talking about packages, letters, and postcards, so let's try to send a postcard!
"Postcard" in Urdu is Post-card. (SLOW)Post-card. Let's break it down by syllable: Po-st-ca-rd. Now let's hear it again: Post-card. "I would like to send this postcard to Italy" in Urdu is Mujhay yeh post card itali bhaijna hai. (SLOW)Mujhay yeh post card itali bhaijna hai. Let's break it down by syllable: Mu-jhay yeh po-st-ca-rd i-ta-li bhai-jna hai. Now let's hear it once again: Mujhay yeh post card itali bhaijna hai.. Notice the position of yeh Post-kard, which means "this postcard."
Now let's try "letter," which in Urdu is Khat. (SLOW)Khat. "I would like to send this letter to Italy" in Urdu is Mujhay yeh khat itali bhaijna hai. (SLOW)Mujhay yeh khat itali bhaijna hai.. As you can notice, we substitute the word for Post-card, which is feminine, with the word for "letter" (khat), which is a masculine noun.
Now let's try to send a package. In Urdu, "I would like to send this package to Italy" is Mujhay yeh parsal itali bhaijna hai. (SLOW)Mujhay yeh parsal itali bhaijna hai. In Pakistan, we usually use the word parsal for "Package". Let's break it down by syllable and hear it once more: (SLOW) Par-sal, parsal. So all together, we have Mujhay yeh parsal itali bhaijna hai.
