| Assalamualaikum and welcome to another video of Urdu top words. So our lesson for today would be “Top 10 Phrases Your Parents Always Say.” Let’s get started. |

| خیال رکهنا. |
| (Khayal rakhna.) |
| “Be careful.” |
| This word also tends to mean “please take care” and yes, we can also use it for “be careful.” |
| 2. |
| خاموش رہو. |
| (Khamosh raho.) |
| “Be quiet.” |
| I think it depends upon your body language when you are speaking these words that this sentence itself can be soft but it can also be harsh like khamosh raho like “be quiet.” But yeah, khamosh raho like “stay quiet” or “be quiet.” |
| 3. |
| اپنا گهر کا کام کرو! |
| (Apna ghar ka kam karo!) |
| “Do your homework!” |
| This can also mean a homework as in school work but it can also mean your house chores. For example, washing dishes or clothes or something like that. |
| 4. |
| بستر پر جاؤ. |
| (Bistar per jao.) |
| “Go to bed.” |
| Again, tone. The more you speak Urdu, you would come to realize that a lot of the things actually depends upon the pitch you are using. If it is softer pitch, it conveys a soft message but if it is a harsh or hard pitch or a loud pitch I would say, then it conveys a bit more strict message. |

| میں تین تک شمار کرنے جا رہا/ رہی ہوں. |
| (Mein teen tk shumar kernay ja raha/ rahi hun.) |
| “I'm going to count to three.” |
| We use this sentence in terms of games but yes, also as a warning to our kids that I am going to count to three. So you better stop what you’re doing. |

| آپ نے کیا کہا؟ |
| (Aap nay kia kaha?) |
| “What did you say?” |
| See, we can use it two ways or I think more than two ways, but I will just demonstrate two ways. |

| “What did you say?” |
| آپ نے کیا کہا؟ |
| (Aap nay kia kaha?) |
| “What did you say?” |
| So you get the picture. I mean, I hope you understand the idea that your tone really makes up the meaning of your sentence even though however literally you translate it. |

| میں مذاق نہیں کر رہا / رہی. |
| (Mein mazaaq nahi ker raha/rahi.) |
| “I'm not kidding.” |
| Well, I guess mothers usually use it to make it clear that whatever they are saying has some weightage but I really don’t see the effect of the sentence on the kids anymore. |

| اب ٹی وی بند کر دو. |
| (Ab TV band ker do.) |
| “Turn the TV off now.” |
| اب ٹی وی بند کر دو. |
| (Ab TV band ker do.) |
| “Turn the TV off.” |
| Oh my god, I think this is the only sentence that I hear my mother using it all the time in the home with my younger siblings. |

| So yeah, you better really learn it. |

| میں نے ابھی کیا کہا تھا؟ |
| (Mein ny abhi kiya kaha tha?) |
| “What did I just say?” |
| I think this is one of my favorites in our today’s lesson because I tend to use it a lot with my younger siblings. You know, the elder sister always has the importance in the family for the younger siblings like she’s kind of the motherly figure. So I do get to use that a lot with my younger siblings but I do use it like mein ny abhi kiya kaha tha? Like the really strict sound you know. Yeah, I can be strict. |

| آپ نے اپنے دانتوں کو برش کیا؟ |
| (Aap nay apnay dantoo ko brush kia?) |
| “Did you brush your teeth?” |
| Yes, I did. |
