Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you doing?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to answer this question and tell someone something about what you’re writing.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟
(Aap kia ker rahay hain? )
میں اپنا روز نامچہ لکھ رہا ہوں۔
(Mei apna roz namcha likh raha hun. )
Once more with the English translation.
آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟
(Aap kia ker rahay hain? )
“What are you doing?”
میں اپنا روز نامچہ لکھ رہا ہوں۔
(Mei apna roz namcha likh raha hun. )
“I'm writing my journal.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you doing?”
That's:
آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟
(Aap kia ker rahay hain? )
Listen to it again:
آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟, آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟
(Aap kia ker rahay hain? , Aap kia ker rahay hain? )
This Urdu sentence literally translates as “You what are doing?"
But it means “What are you doing?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
میں [object] لکھ رہا ہوں۔
(Mei [object] likh raha hun. )
This Urdu sentence literally translates as “I [object] writing am."
But it means “I'm writing [object].”
For example:
“I'm writing my journal.”
میں اپنا روز نامچہ لکھ رہا ہوں۔, میں اپنا روز نامچہ لکھ رہا ہوں۔
(Mei apna roz namcha likh raha hun. , Mei apna roz namcha likh raha hun. )
