Alisha: Welcome to 3-Minute Urdu, Lesson 10 - Asking How Much Something Costs. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask how much something costs in Urdu.
Body
Alisha: Here's the way to ask 'How much does this cost?' in Urdu when referring to a masculine noun.
Syed: [Normal] یہ کتنے کا ہے؟ (Yeh kitnay ka hai?)
Alisha: First is a word meaning 'this'
Syed: [Normal] یہ [Slow] یہ (yeh)
Alisha: Next is the phrase meaning 'how much' when referring to a masculine noun
Syed: [Normal] کتنے کا [Slow] کتنے کا (kitnay ka)
Alisha: Last is the word meaning 'is'
Syed: [Normal] ہے [Slow] ہے (hai)
Alisha: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning 'How much does this cost?'
Syed: [Slow] یہ کتنے کا ہے؟ [Normal] یہ کتنے کا ہے؟
Alisha: Now, imagine you want to ask the price when referring to a feminine noun. Here's the way to ask, 'How much does this cost?'
Syed: [Normal] یہ کتنے کی ہے؟ (Yeh kitnay ki hai?)
Alisha: First is a word meaning 'this'
Syed: [Normal] یہ [Slow] یہ (yeh)
Alisha: Next is the phrase meaning 'how much' when referring to a feminine noun

Syed: [Normal] ٹھیک ہے [Slow] ٹھیک ہے (theek hai)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'I'
Syed: [Normal] میں [Slow] میں (mei)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'this'
Syed: [Normal] یہ [Slow] یہ (yeh)
Alisha: Last is the phrase meaning 'take’
Syed: [Normal] لے لیتا ہوں [Slow] لے لیتا ہوں (lay leta hun)
Alisha: Listen again to the response, 'OK, I'll take it.'

Alisha: Here's a response meaning, 'No, thanks. It's too expensive.'
Syed: [Normal] نہیں، شکریہ۔ یہ بہت مہنگا ہے۔ (Nahin, shukria. Yeh bohat mehanga hai.)
Alisha: First is a phrase meaning 'No, thanks.'
Syed: [Normal] نہیں، شکریہ۔ [Slow] نہیں، شکریہ۔ (Nahin, shukria.)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'this'
Syed: [Normal] یہ [Slow] یہ (yeh)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'very'
Syed: [Normal] بہت [Slow] بہت (bohat)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'expensive'
Syed: [Normal] مہنگا [Slow] مہنگا (mehanga)

Alisha: Listen again to the response, 'No, thanks. It's too expensive.'
