INTRODUCTION
In the previous lesson, we covered how to ask to get something. In today's lesson, we'll introduce you to another useful phrase to ask for the place where you can find something.
BODY
Today's phrase is, "Is there a (place) near here?" First, we need a place. Let's use the word farmasy فارمیسی, which means "pharmacy." Let's break it down by syllable: (SLOW) far-ma-sy. Now let's hear it once again: farmasy.
In Urdu, "Is there a pharmacy near here?" is kia yaha pas mei farmasy hai? (SLOW) kia yaha pas mei farmasy hai?
Let's break it down by syllable: kia ya-ha pa-s mei fa-rma-sy hai? Now let's hear it once again: (SLOW)kia yaha pas mei farmasy hai?
The first word, kia yaha, means "is here." Let's break it down and hear it one more time: (SLOW) kia ya-ha, kia yaha. This is followed by pas mei, which means "nearby," followed by farmasy, which means "a pharmacy" in English. Next, we have hai, which is "is." Let's hear it one more time: kia yaha pas me farmasy hai? This literally means "Is there a pharmacy near here?" kia yaha pas mei farmasy hai?
To ask for a different place, we can just replace the word farmasy with any other word and the phrase works just fine. Let's imagine you need to withdraw some money from your bank account. In Urdu, "Is there an ATM near here?" is kia yaha pas mei ATM hai?(SLOW) kia yaha pas mei ATM hai? The only thing that changes is the thing you are looking for, in this case, the "ATM." Let's hear the entire phrase one more time:(SLOW) kia yaha pas mei ATM hai? kia yaha pas mei ATM hai?
