INTRODUCTION

In this lesson, we will continue to learn more phrases that will help you with basic etiquette. Pakistanis are very hospitable, and use phrases of gratitude quite often. Even if you don’t get the chance to use Yeh khushi ki baat hai, the phrase meaning "You're welcome," during your trip to Pakistan, there's a very good chance you will hear it. So let's have a closer look at it!

In Urdu, “You’re welcome” is Yeh Khushi ki baat hai. It literally means “It’s a pleasure.” Let's break it down by syllable.

First we have Yeh meaning “it.”

When someone says Shukriya or “thank you” in Urdu, you can respond by saying “It’s a pleasure” which is Yeh Khushi ki baat hai, “No problem,” which is Koi masla nahi, or “It’s nothing,” which is Yeh kuch nahi hai. You can use them in both formal and informal situations, but it is more appropriate to use “It’s a pleasure” which is Yeh Khushi ki baat hai in formal discussions.
