Ali: There's a new movie starring Shaan Shahid being released tomorrow. Do you want to go watch it?
Asha: Oh yes! I want to watch it too. But I can't go tomorrow. I'm supposed to be at my aunt's place in the evening.
Ali: Why don't you go see your aunt the day after tomorrow?
Asha: No way, it's been fixed for a while now. Can't we go watch the film on the day after tomorrow?
Ali: Yeah, I guess that's fine. How about the afternoon? I have some things to do in the morning.
Asha: Yeah sure, at Saket Mall nearby? We can have lunch there and then watch the movie.
Ali: Okay, that's fine.
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Becky: In this conversation, our speakers were trying to arrange a trip to the cinema.
Hamza: Yes, they both have things to do though, so they’re negotiating a little.
Becky: Is going to the cinema popular in Pakistan?
Hamza: Yes, it is. Lollywood has had a revival in the past few years.
Becky: A revival? Did it lose popularity?
Hamza: About five years ago it was almost dead.
Becky: Wow! How did it come back from the dead?
Hamza: Thankfully, some quality movies were made by local directors.
Becky: Good movies will always do well! I’m glad Lollywood was able to produce some again.
Hamza: Me too. This is a bit of a boom period for Lollywood, as many actors and directors from India are also getting involved in Pakistani productions.
Becky: Do you have any recommendations from this boom period?
Hamza: Yeh Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Karachi Say Lahore Tak, and Bin Roye have all been popular.

KEY VOCAB AND PHRASES
Becky: Let's have a closer look at the usage of some of the words and phrases from this lesson. The first word is...
Hamza: جی ضرور
Becky: ...meaning "yeah, sure." This is a phrase.
Hamza: To break it down, جی means “yeah” and the second word is ضرور .
Becky: That means “sure.”
Hamza: You can use this phrase to respond positively to someone’s request or demand.
Becky: Can you give us an example using this word?
Hamza: Sure. Someone can ask, میں کام میں مصروف ہوں، کیا آپ میری مدد کر سکتی ہو؟
Becky: ...which means, "I’m busy, can you help me with my work?”
Hamza: And the other person answers,جی ضرور.
Becky: ...meaning “Yeah, sure."
Becky: Okay, what's the next word?
Hamza: طے
Becky: This means "fixed, confirmed"
Becky: This is an adjective.
Hamza: You can use it to say that a plan is confirmed.
Becky: Can it be used for the confirmation of any kind of plan?
Hamza: Yes, you can use it for meetings, gatherings, and things like that.
Becky: Can you give us an example with this word?
Hamza: Sure. For example, you can say.. اپنی ملاقات کا وقت طے کرو.
Becky: .. which means "Fix our meeting time. "
Becky: Okay, now onto the lesson focus.

Lesson focus

Becky: In this lesson, you'll learn about using verbs when discussing with friends to set up a meeting time and place. First, we need to identify what the plan is. Maybe we want to watch a movie or meet somewhere.
Hamza: We can use the verb دیکهنا , meaning “to see” or “to watch.”
Becky: Can you tell us the different forms of that verb?
Hamza: Sure. If you’re watching something masculine, use دیکهنا . For something feminine, use دیکهنی .
Becky: And the plural form?
Hamza: That is دیکهنے .
Becky: What about “to meet?”
Hamza: “To meet” in both masculine and feminine is ملنے . If you want to use it to mean “to find”, then you should use ملنا for masculine, and ملنی for feminine.
Becky: Okay. Let’s hear some example sentences.
Hamza: میں اپنی بہن سے ملنے گیا
Becky: “I went to meet my sister.”
Hamza: مجهے ایک پرانی گاڑی ملی
Becky: “I found an old car.” So, in those two sentences you first hear “to meet” and then “to find.” After deciding what to do, we need a time. This can be general, such as “morning” or “afternoon.”
Hamza: For example, you can use صبح for “morning” and دوپہر for “afternoon.”
Becky: There is a list of these words in the lesson notes, but for now let’s hear some sentences.
Hamza: میں کل شام فارغ ہوں.
Becky: “I am free tomorrow evening.”
Hamza: میں پرسوں فلم دیکھنے جا رہا ہوں.
Becky: “I am going to watch a movie the day after tomorrow.” So, we have some verbs and some times, now we need to ask people to come with us. Hamza, can you give us an example of how to do this?
Hamza: Sure! دیکھنے جانا چاہتی ہو؟
Becky: “Want to go watch?”
Hamza: This sentence has a verb, and then “want to.” کیا آپ کرکٹ کھیلنا چاہتے ہیں؟
Becky: “Do you want to play cricket?”
Hamza: کیا تم خریداری کے لئے جانا چاہتی ہو؟
Becky: “Do you want to go shopping?”

Outro

Becky: Okay, that’s all for this lesson. Thank you for listening, everyone, and we’ll see you next time! Bye!
Hamza: پهر ملیں گے! (Phir milenge!)
