Alisha: Welcome to 3-Minute Urdu, Lesson 12 - Asking What Someone is Doing. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask and answer the question ‘What are you doing?’ in Urdu.

Alisha: Here's how to ask 'What are you doing?' in Urdu when addressing a man.
Syed: [Normal] آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟ (Aap kia ker rahay hain?)
Alisha: First is a word meaning 'you'
Syed: [Normal] آپ [Slow] آپ (aap)
Alisha: Next is the word meaning 'what '
Syed: [Normal] کیا [Slow] کیا (kia)
Alisha: Next is the phrase meaning 'doing' when referring to a man
Syed: [Normal] کر رہے [Slow] کر رہے (ker rahay)
Alisha: Last is the word meaning 'are'
Syed: [Normal] ہیں [Slow] ہیں (hain)
Alisha: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning 'What are you doing?' when addressing a man.
Syed: [Slow] آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟ [Normal] آپ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟
Alisha: Now, imagine you're speaking to a woman. Here's the way to ask, 'What are you doing?'
